Abstract

The plant selection (PLTSEL) system is a computer-based data bank for rapidly organizing and retrieving visual, cultural and ecological information on over 500 native plants. The new system has been developed to solve complex contemporary plant use problems across a broad spectrum of plant characteristics and user needs with the present plant file containing more than 52,000 potential plant characteristics. The information which can be retrieved from the PLTSEL system has proven valuable to landscape architects, foresters, plant ecologists, architects, and horticulturalists in education and professional practice.
