Abstract

Populations that migrate generally bring cultural practices with them to their new location. Some of these cultural practices relate to space use and urban design. One such group is Puerto Ricans who have migrated to the northeastern part of the United States. This article outlines the spatial vocabularies of three major urban open spaces used and created in Puerto Rican cultural enclaves: central plazas and parks, streetscapes, and markets.
