AB This essay responds to two recently published articles in Landscape Journal that proposed methods and models of instruction for history courses in landscape architectural curricula. It argues for the importance of history as a mechanism for cultural and intellectual enfranchisement rather than as instrumental to the design studio, and posits an alternative model for the teaching of landscape history.
