There are many sites still revered today which have been deemed sacred over the centuries despite changes in customs, religions, and the forces of modernization. The makam consists of a few profoundly simple elements—mountains, trees, rocks, and water. The makam is a place to envision worlds gone by and stands as testimony to the desire of people to come to grips with the larger forces of the world. ER -
