Marvin was influenced by the traditional values of his Southern identity and context, the Southeastern regional landscape, and the evolving ideas of twentieth-century design in landscape architecture. By incorporating these attributes into his work, Marvin was able to achieve a new landscape aesthetic that was recognizable, repeatable, and often emulated. He influenced a generation of design professionals and has had lasting influence on values and aesthetics in the Southeastern landscape.
